What can you do?Manteca’s character as a small city has been vital to its quality of life, but the City’s new plan for zoning massive, dense development could change it into another urban suburb like the Bay Area. Instead, we have proposed that this area be allocated for light industrial operations or warehousing purposes, creating more job opportunities and preserving the essential nature of the community.

Here are Five reasons why you should sign up to vote on this massive growth plan:
- The official City environmental impact evaluation says that this ballot measure is designed to more than double Manteca’s population – adding over 116,000 thousand new residents and driving our local population over 206,000.
- Manteca’s character as a small city with closeness (or close ties) to agriculture and open space has been an essential part our quality of life. The City’s new plan paves the way to allow for zoning of massive, dense development that will be detrimental to local farms, ranches, and vineyards. It will forever change Manteca from a farming-focused community into another urban suburb of the Bay Area.
- The city plan allows developers to build tens of thousands of units of new housing, in just a 20-year period. That’s too much change coming too fast. We need to come up with a more gradual, step-by-step plan for our community’s future that preserves the nature of our community.
- Traffic is already a growing problem. The City’s growth plan, which does not come with long-term jobs, is projected to increase traffic on our roads by 123% – and truck traffic by a staggering 297%. The new growth, will make commuter traffic worse for everyone.
- Local officials already project that school enrollment will increase by thousands of students in Manteca over the next decade – and if this plan is approved, there will be even more students for our existing education infrastructure, leading to overcrowded classrooms and hurting the quality of our public schools.
- Even Mayor Singh has commented that we don’t have the funds to support the infrastructure needed to properly effect the new General Plan.
